Duarte Ryu
Martial Art of the Dominican Republic
Newsletter May 2008
This month we are excited to let everyone know that Duarte Ryu is growing by leaps and bounds. Duarte Ryu has in production its first DVD containing the requirements for yellow tip. This DVD will be available to all students who are wanting to study Duarte Ryu abroad. The DVD will consist of basic techniques needed to give the student a strong foundation and beginning for Dominican Ju-Jitsu. This series will give the basic stances and techniques needed to grow and prosper in the stated system. This DVD is not a how to or self defense series. It will not contain grappling or advanced techniques. This DVD is only designed to give an introduction and opening to the philosophy and basic techniques necessitated by the system.
In this months issue we would like to welcome Cadet Jeremy Huggins to the Duarte Ryu family. Jeremy is currently enrolled at the prestigious West Point Military Academy. We have had the pleasure of having Jeremy train with us during his breaks and return trips home to visit family and friends. Jeremy will have the honor of being the first student to be enrolled in the long distance program. Jeremy has much experience in the martial arts and was on the Judo team at West Point. He is also a member of the Rugby team, and has always been a fierce and honorable competitor in sports and life. We have known Jeremy for many years, and he is a fine and outstanding person. He is welcomed by all in our system, and we are grateful to have him training with us.

Also this month we would like to thank all of our students. It is the students who really make up and provide the life force and energy of the art. In Duarte Ryu we look at things as being a family first then a business second. For the art and the instructors it is always about what is best for the students and how to help them progress. It has been our experience that when an instructor gives to and cares for their students, they receive respect and loyalty in return.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our new students who signed up this past week, as well as the visitors who have come in to visit the classes.
The photos at right show the beautiful facility provided by United Martial Arts. This is the current training home and dojo of Duarte Ryu Martial Arts. Please come by and check us out today.
Also, this month we are hoping to have the Spanish site fully functional and ready. So until next time keep training hard and keep progressing.
